What readers are saying about Jessup and the Teleporter

“D.S. Hale demonstrates rather than explains the insidious nature of betrayal. I cried in the first chapter and I think Jessup speaks for all the left over children of adult's selfishness. Your imagination soars, it gives your characters life and purpose. this story pulled me along. I read it all at once.  It was fun to read, which is what any kids story should be!”

                                                                                  ---Abigail

“This story rocks. You have a believable protagonist, the opening scene throws the reader right into Jessup's mind, the dialogue is always flawless and your style smoothly fits in with the genre. You had me break out laughing several times throughout the first chapters, which is always great.”                                                                       ---Nicky

“This is a very well written book with the right voice for its age group. I inhaled most of these chapters in half an hour without wanting to put it down. So kudos for expertly handling the art of page-turning. Kids love adventure and with a young MC they can resonate with, this should be a popular book to read. Jessup has a larger-than-life responsibility and the whole world is counting on him.”                                  ---Randall

”The struggle over his parent's divorce is well written and I particularly enjoy the 'Denise' factor. She's the fly in the ointment every book should have. Your scenes are well defined with a three-act formula and plenty of hooks. You successfully took me to another place, a scene of your own devising. I was intrigued, wondering what was going to happen next. I like Jessup because he has a range of emotions - spiritual, moral, not to mention courage. And wit. Tons of wit. Oh, and some gross bits. Kids love a bit of yuk.”                                                               ---Bob

“Your writing flows well. There's a kind of magic in your style and your words really do sing. I heard somewhere that writing should be like good music where you identify the themes. And just when you think you have it sassed, there's a little unexpected twist. So I never found this book predictable.”                                                                        ---Claire

“I read your entire book in one go. It's sweet, clever and extremely helpful for children- well done. It gets a lot of messages through without being either heavy handed or preachy.”                             ---Doyle

“I could definitely see this being in the grade school libraries--both as educational to teach kids about living with divorced parents and as an entertaining adventure--i mean what kid wouldn't want to save the world, right?”                                                                             ---John

“It actually took me back to the books of my youth such as Judy Blume's "Superfudge" and "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing"--nice job!
                                                                                        ---Erin

“You're good. You're very good. I am at chapter 7, and I plan to finish the story, because I must know how it ends. But I had to stop now to tell you I'm backing you. And I am not a YA reader, ordinarily, or a Christian book reader. You have a great adventure story, and what is more you tell it masterfully. You must be from Kentucky or thereabouts, because everything you describe, every piece of dialogue, rings true. Dialogue is my own special nitpick about any book. Some writers never find that natural voice for their characters; so intent are they on getting some point across. You do not have that problem.  You have a really great piece here.”                                                                                ---Gary

”I took to this straight away, and can definitely see it as an animation. I really hope it gets picked up and becomes successful. Very topical and the kids will love it. Very well written, too with a constant pace keeping it moving swiftly. Lots of fun and great characters.”              ---Jason

“Excellent writing and storytelling. The way in which you write Jessup's situation really got to me. "I'm not a kid anymore. So what am I then?" I know this is just a story, but these are real sentiments of so many children today living in divorced households. Tugged at my heart strings and you have me on the sidelines cheering for Jessup to push forward. And all that within the first chapter! Like I said, excellent writing!”          ---Chad

“What a great child's voice, totally convincing and real, I felt for Jessup’s traumas so much. Yet you have a lightness of touch, which doesn't get us too bogged down in his difficult emotions. Poor old Mom too - I've been there with the tub of ice cream! And then the Professor! Excellent. I like the way this is woven in, again from the child narrator's point of view, so though he is fantastical, he is believable as the sort of magical thing that just might happen to a child. Especially when such sad things are happening to him. Great Stuff!”                                           ---Kate

”This is brilliant, so imaginative.  Great stuff - well done!”

                                                                                      --- Sue

“Jessup is beautifully written and made me laugh out loud in places, love               .     the whole dad girlfriend as an Alien thing,”                        ---Ryan

“Donna, pre-teen, science fiction writing, and books in the first-person has never been my cup of tea on ... all three counts ... until now!! This is a very well written piece of work and for some reason reminds me of E.T., Famous Five and Star Wars all rolled into one.  The view of life seen through a 12 year old is very well executed and this book must be a winner for the age group that is your target audience.”
                                                                                      ---Tom

“Just finished chapter one and your writing, story telling, and craft are top notch. The voice of Jessup is spot on. It is never rushed nor it is clunky.”            .                                                                                      ---Andrew

“This is a wonderfully creative story that's relatable and intriguing. The writing flows extremely well and Jessup is a charming character - the typical seventh grader boy who's just trying to figure out where he stands.”                                                                           . ---Jo

“This is a lovely story written with a sensitive tone from a 12-year old boy’s point of view. Jessup’s agony about the separation and upcoming divorce of his parents triggers his imagination to escape into another adventure that might possibly solve his issues regarding this undesired situation.”                                                                       --- Sebnem

“Oh this is quite adorable. I love the amount of focus and character that's emphasized in your novel. Very beautifully written, playful, and quite the read. It's charming and folds very evenly like a summer's day read. I could see myself passing this book down to many others in the future.”                    .                                                                                      ---Sabrina

“The action keeps up to the end which is great, and while it is the kids the save the day, this is exactly what you want from a kids book. Overall it is engaging at lots of fun to read. Well done.”                          ---Delilah

“This is an excellent book! You have so entered into the mind of a 12 year old with such strong feelings about what is going on together with a sense of helplessness to do anything about it. ‘I hated the split family thing. I hated divorce. I hated Mom. I hated Dad’ etc. I love the way you bring in the church and how he felt about being told to pray! ‘Like prayer was a band-aid or something’! Marvelous. I can’t help feeling you have had personal experience of all this because your writing is so strong and so true.”            .                                                                                      ---Reese

“I hope you realize you kept me up until 5:30am reading your story.  I dislike YA books. I usually dislike Christian books. I am famous for hating first person stories. But this had me enthralled from the first paragraph to the point that I couldn't turn away.  I read from chapter one through to the end in one sitting. It was completely engrossing, had me teary-eyed when he sat in front of the church and prayed (I am Christian, after all), and had me cheering at his heroic childhood stupidity. This has to be one of the best stories I have read in months.”                                  ---Jennifer

“Just finished chapters 3-14 in one day. Excellent and very original, imaginative story. Quite brilliant, actually...you weave together a "Honey, I Shrank the Kids" or a "Back To the Future" fast-paced adventure tale with some poignant family issues from the perspective of a 12-year old.”              .                                                                                         ---Bart

“Super book! Well-written and fun reading with great insight from a burgeoning young man’s perspective. A useful tool, perhaps, for young people (maybe parents, too) going through an unfortunately all too common difficult situation. Definitely one to recommend for a fast-paced read for all ages with a clear demonstration of how inner turmoil kept too long can confuse and distort clear thinking. All worked out in the end - but that is only by the grace of God and fervent, heartfelt prayer in the eleventh hour by someone who realized at the end that he couldn't do it alone. Jessup is an example of someone who prays like it's all on God and works like it's all on him.”                                                  ---Nadine

“Well done!  I also will agree, as many comments have underneath, that your study of domestic issues, childhood angst issues, as well as what I believe to be symbolism towards the beginnings of that fabled 'generation x' are something to be greatly admired.”                             ---Tom

“You have a very easy, flowing style of writing and do and excellent job of channeling a twelve-year-old boy. I laughed in chapter three when Jessup said he'd make a good shaggy. At least I got that reference! I do think your target audience will find this a great read.”                         ---Sheri

“You are talented and this was truly a touching story, one with action and suspense young children would love.”                                ---Kara

“This is very, very good. Very well written indeed - it flows easily and is beautifully written - sad, poignant, yet light-hearted and insightful.”
                                                                                      ---Lisa

“Your writing is smooth, imaginative, and immediately hooks the reader. Some of the idioms are very American - I'm a Brit - but the story is powerful and kids here will identify with the situation.”       --- Kathryn

“Right away, this story drew me into it and felt as if I living the story rather than reading it. There was such a realistic feel to it. I felt the anger burning in Jessup from his parent’s split and the circumstances surrounding it and rightly so. I liked the way Jessup reacted to his situation wasn’t sugarcoated and matched up to what a child of this age might be feeling.”                                                              ---Juicy

“This is the best MG/YA novel I've read! It's perfectly suited to its audience, and super funny. I can just imagine kids reading this and giggling at the references to pimples (laughed out loud at that one), slime, maggots, etc. The sub-plot (divorce) is also very appropriate and extremely relevant to more and more children today (unfortunately). The pacing and dialogue were also perfect. And, more importantly, I love how you're setting up the spiritual themes to be explored.”        ---Bruce

“To be honest, I don't read a lot of YA, but this was so well done, I couldn't turn away. Jessup is such an engaging character and the way you had Professor Strunk materialize out of that TV was brilliant. Clear, crisp, engaging writing with cliff-hangers and fast paced action. What more could a young reader ask for?”                                          ---Lynn

“I enjoyed this book and found it to be well written. I thought I was in the book as it was that well written. I understand that this may have taken a long time to plan this as its clear that it has a wonderful flow to not only the story but also each chapter. I can see it doing well as the pace to the book suits it so well which makes it very easy for someone like me to understand.”                                                                  ---Sean

“This is quite a fun book and really hooks the reader from the beginning. It has a clear plot and a fast pace that keeps one turning the pages with curiosity about what's going to happen next and empathy for the protagonist who has very understandable emotions and reactions to all the things that are happening around himself. This book would be enjoyable to a wide range of readers and if it were made into a movie (and it should be!) it would be universally accepted and adored, I'm sure. Some other things I really like about the book is the way it deals with very emotional issues like divorce, shared parenthood, and also the complications of having to choose between two parents, both of whom are equally loved; the fantastic plot device, ie, the teleporter, that creates a wide range of possible side stories; and the very likable character of Jessup, the protagonist which being created by a female author has a very believable voice as a young teenage boy trying to survive a messy break-up between his parents. In sum, everything works well in this book to make me want to read on and find out how things finally work out. And that is what you want a book to do, isn't it? Well done and six stars for this winner!”            .                                                                                    ---Artemus

“Love this! Everything is genuine and believable; the story just draws you in. I cant help but feel empathy for Jessup. The first chapter leaves me wanting to know what he will decide, and o yeah, the hand...great cliff hanger.”                                                                      ---Travis

“This would definitely win the award for most contrasting starting chapters: but in a good way. I was drawn into Jessup's life with startling ease. The way you portray his feelings about his family situation ring true to a lot of people theses days. The age he is at only goes to contribute to this.  I liked Jessup, and I'm sure most people who read your book will. He has a charm and child's innocence that makes him quite endearing. Great hook at the end of the chapter one, which leads me to chapter two.”            .                                                                                    ---Bri

“I really enjoyed reading this story. It's great to run across well-written stories presented from a Christian world view, especially stories for children and young adults. I think the action and descriptions in this story are done very well. It's easy to get into and a fun read. I think you also do a good job showing Jessop's 12-year-old logic in trying to solve the difficulties he is faced with and I appreciate how you show the sometimes painful consequences of his decisions.”                          ---Meghan

“This is a well written, fast paced story which keeps a young readers attention with great cliffhangers! You have done an excellent job with creating Jessop's character and the dilemma he faces with his parents messy divorce. You have a natural flair for setting the scene in a very real day-to-day situation, then building up anticipation for the unexpected with your imagination. The second chapter goes frantically into the fast paced action, taking the reader on a roller coaster ride of an adventure!”            .                                                                                     ---Gary

“I just want to say this is the most enjoyable book so far. I love the realistic references of your character. He is totally believable. I feel like I know him, maybe because I have a nephew who is around the age of your character & he certainly acts similarly.”                              ---Benjamin

“What a fab book. Sometime the YA books are a better read than adult. The way you allow your reader to indulge with the Professor coming out of the TV set. Right from the off we are hooked by the hate for Denise "the other Woman" and the plot to get her out of their lives and dad back.
Very well written and enjoyable”                                        ---Liam

“Good read! You're a talented writer and your characters are ideal for the target age range.”                                                          ---Lee

“From the cover to the title, and everything in between, you've captured it spot on. Your imagery is exceptional, drawing the reader in to the situation. Your characters are lifelike, likable, and superb. You've taken a situation that has ruined many kids’ lives and hewn it into redemption. We read because it transports us, and this book certainly does that. I feel that this is the kind of book, like Harry Potter was for so many, that would get kids reading. And that's just about the greatest thing a children's book can accomplish! Truly, great work!!”                                       ---Jessie

“Great story. Very well written for the age group. Many kids who are victims of broken families would love this book. I especially liked the line: "I am a kid with a head full of anger, and hate, and sadness, with a heart as heavy as a rock." A very apt description of a child's feelings in those circumstances.”                                                              ---Kerrie

“You have a great writing style that draws the reader into the developing plot.”                                                                              ---Ron

“This is absolutely, positively an awesome story. The writing is excellent, the characters are fantastic and the storytelling is superb. You've nailed it with this one. Six stars from me. Bravo!                             ---Abby

“This is like The Parent Trap meets Back to the Future. Jessup jumps off the page from the very beginning as he pretends the video-game alien is his dad's girlfriend. I'm in love with Professor Strunk's name. Each chapter ends with a hook, but it comes naturally and pulls the reader right along. Overall, I thought this was very well-written and enjoyable, and should do really well with the audience.”                             ---Mike

“Your book starts out great! You are writing perfectly for that age group! I can see kids, boys, girls, 3'rd to 8th just loving this book. The story is fun. I love how you pull us into Jessup's head right off the bat. We know him- his personality, his joys, his pain, and the struggle he is battling with his parents. You write like you know exactly how these kids think and every kid who has ever gone through anything like divorcing parents will empathize with this boy, throughout this whole book. You cover tons of therapy, wrapped in mystery, comedy, fear, pain, mystery, and love. And you do it incredibly well!  I love your fun writing style. You are smooth. The plot races. Nothing bogs it down or distracts from what is most important. I felt like I was running through your book, collecting a love for these kids and their struggling parents along the way.          ---Sharon

“Gosh, This is brilliant. An ingenious first chapter, which told us all we needed to know, a fabulous MC, beautifully scripted. No fault to find at all!”                                                                                  ---Andrea

“The opening scene to this novel is ingenious. Through the events taking place, you brilliantly reveal everything the reader needs to know to be grounded in the story. Too many authors provide page after page of background information that ought to be written into the story. This is a phenomenal example of how to do it right. From there, I was impressed with how well targeted this is for the audience. The word choice is active and fitting for the genre, and I could easily see my middle school students loving every word of this. I also felt the voice was authentic. The thoughts and feelings felt spot on for the age. And though the narrator occasionally seems older than twelve, I believed Jessup’s character. This was very  effectively written. I love that this is a Christian novel. Christianity needs a voice like this one for its MG audience.”                           ---Joshua

“Excellent. This reads like a book already on library shelves, but not staying there long because kids will scramble to get their hands on it. You do well at everything--portraying Jessup and his dog, getting the language just right, adding some fantasy, dealing with the hard realities of divorce, telling the story like a most accomplished storyteller. This will become a favorite among Jessup's age group--and some of us a bit older can enjoy it too.”                                                             ---Barbara

“What a great imagination you have! The opening was great.  It always amazes me whens someone writes from the first person POV of a child, such as twelve year old Jessup, and is totally believable. As the narrator, his decisions and thinking are done with the emotions and rationalizations that a kid his age would have. Someone said that reading this was like watching a Disney movie. I agree :) Kids will love this.”        ---Eden

“I was hooked on this story from the first chapter which by the way was excellent. I rarely visit children's books these days which is quite lamentable but I’m very glad I visited this one. Not only is the book written in a way which engages middle school readers, which, I have to admit is probably a comfortable place for my reading level too(!) but not once is it preachy nor does it take on the form of adults wanting to be 'down' with the kids. You captured Jessup's state of mine perfectly and brought back memories of my own awareness at the age of 12 and my utter dislike of my dad's latest girlfriend so I completely had sympathy for your MC. Sympathy? Hell I was cheering and egging him on!”  ---Mindy

“I read chapters 1 through 4 and thought they were a master class in how to write children's book. Your voice is simply perfect for this style of book and the children characters you've created are so spot on that I've come to the conclusion you chose a certain childhood age a long time ago and decided never to grow up from there. Good for you! For me it's being early twenties that I never grew out of hence my MC's are that age too. Children's book writers get an unfair deal i think, as children's books can be notoriously under appreciated financially but I hope very much you push the book in all areas as I believe it's worth it and any more you've got bubbling away. I feel your work will be loved by kids and the lucky adults that get to read it aloud. Six stars!”                           ---Maria

“Look I really like your book the more I read of it. The tone and style are pitched just right and the pace is bright. You are blessed with a clear writing style and get your point across quickly.”                 ---Cyrus

“This is a wonderful story. It's so original! And I hate Denise. (And the alien-equivalent worked for me, because as a kid--and even now--I love shoot-em-up alien games!). The story is extremely well told. I wouldn't change anything! This is a book that will find it to the shelves! Well done! I like that you made it known that he was from a Christian family, etc., but didn't make it preachy. It ruins books entirely too much. So thank you for keeping it real! And God bless!”                                         ---Brett

“This trips along really nicely, is age appropriate, and has a wonderfully Dr. Who like twist to make the reader turn the page. Nice job, very nice!”        .                                                                                       ---Pierce

“The first thing that struck me about this story is how well D.S. Hale manages to show us Jessup's deepest feelings of loss and his anxiety about his future in such a natural way, without him baring his soul. This is an excellent YA book. You deliver all that the Tags promise, action packed adventure.”                                                                         ---Olive

“I am impressed at how clean and easy it reads, and enjoyed the development of Jessup. But then chapter two latched onto me and wouldn't let go. The pace is relentless. The 12" TV giving birth to a full-grown man is handled convincingly.”                                            ---Jehmka

“This story is unusually inventive, and this is what impressed me most. Excellent writing!”                                                             ---Rodney

“Your voice is amazing—easily readable with just enough description and imagery. The pace is perfect.”                                             ---Brenda

“I really like this story. It grabs you from the start and I can see this as a film or TV series. Well done it's great.”                                 ---Peter

“It was a fun story to read! Your descriptions of each character were detailed and clear that I could really see them. You captured the emotional thought life of a twelve-year-old so perfectly concerning his distress over his parents divorce. How do I know? My parents divorced when I was twelve and it brought back memories of how I hated my Dad's new lady and how I dreamed up ways to get my parents back together. I wish I had a story like this when I was that age. It will be great for other kids that will relate to it.”                                                                   ---Lynn

“I teach struggling readers, and I could definitely see them warming up to this book. They’d relate to the predicament of Jessup and his parents, and they will appreciate that there is action aplenty in the early chapters

This is an engaging, well written YA book. Of course I love the fact that Jessup relies on his faith and hope that aspect gets the book noticed. I’d love to have this on the shelves in my classroom!”            ---AudreyB

“I read the first four chapters of Jessup and the Teleporter and I must say, what an amazingly creative story. Although it is YA, it has a universal appeal that captivates the attention of adults. You create a masterful balance between juvenile science fiction on one hand, while in the same story dealing with the complexities and fallout of a broken marriage. The description is quite vivid and the scenes are easy to imagine in the mind's eye.”                                                                               ---James

“WOW!

I have to admit this wasn't what I thought it would be. You have managed to take my imagination on an exciting adventure. You captured the character very well, and as an adult, that is no easy feat, putting yourself in the shoes of a 12 year-old. These chapters had me filled with empathy for the boy. I too hated the evil, new girlfriend. I was filled with that anxious excitement you feel when watching an action movie and the hero is hanging off the side of a train, Will he make it? Okay, lol that might be a bit over exaggerated haha. But I really enjoyed the read and I believe YAs would really love this book. It's an exciting adventure.”           ---Aliah

“D.S., this is the kind of book that makes me wish I was twelve years old again and discovering the wonder found between such exciting pages as these.  I think you have a very strong plot and interesting characters. Among what I found you do well: super action scenes, credible and accurate dialogue (which is sometimes so hard to capture), interesting internal monologue, and believable family dynamics.

-I found Jessup's empathy for his mother's sadness very poignant.
-I appreciate the sense of urgency you set-up by establishing the "ticking clock" of the pending court appearance for Jessup to determine his choice of parent.”                                                                         ---Greenlief

“I've read the first four chapters of Jessup and the Teleporter and love it. Very well written and pulls the reader immediately into the story. It's wonderfully creative, action packed, and fast-paced. This looks like an exciting adventure that adults will love as well as children.”  ---Radcliff

“You know what? I was a little hesitant about reading this book at first, I'm not exactly Christian... but after reading the first chapter, I realized that this is much more than just your ordinary Christian novel. Your realistic storyline is something that every young adult or teen could relate to. I love Pecos, such a lovable dog! I also really like Chris' dialogue; it's very realistic and easy to read. I genuinely like this!”                  ---Julio

“Hey just read your first chapter. I think I laughed twice. At the same time, you're dealing with deep, realistic emotional issues and conveying the impact they have on a twelve-year-old. In addition to humor and emotional impact, I like that you introduced Jessup's main problem right away. You don't waste time with unnecessary back story, but rather pull your reader in immediately. Jessup is an awesome character. His thoughts and actions are dead-on for his age group and fun to read. By tying in his life issue with a video game/scifi theme, you're making sure that your work is original, yet dealing with common, real-life issues. Nice job! Great style.”                                                                             ---Jonie

“This is a really cool story filled with suspense, drama, humor and faith. It's extremely entertaining and hard to put down. The pace is exhilarating and the suspense spell bounding. Great job, could even be a family-fun action sci-fi movie.”                                                       ---Owlbyrd

“A wonderful, imaginative story.”                                    ---Freddie

“I fell instantly in love with this writer-voice. I would go nuts about the book if I were a little younger. (I am 67) But i still have those parts alive inside me who yelled yeah! This is the thing! I will recommend you to friends here who are more into your kind of audience.”         ---Leelah

“Would make a fun kids movie - like the Goonies.”          ---David

“You plunge the YA reader right in the middle of the story by your use of first person. You clearly know your market and have targeted accordingly. This has energy and brio and is full of the kind of action that would draw kids in. There’s nothing worse than being caught by your peers with the wrong stuff and I really do like the way you highlight the technology that was so last week…. Kids of course, are way more on top of this, as you so cleverly acknowledge, than their parents. Although the set-up is about a boy caught up in a divorce, this in no way feels like issue-based story-telling. Instead, Jessup’s own adventure is allowed to take over and it does, at break-neck speed. This would really lend itself to either an animation – in the Toy Story tradition or a kids TV film.”     ---Lambert

“This book starts out like a bullet and keeps on going. It’s a great opening, and I had so much fun reading it that I was almost feeling guilty. You really do capture the thought processes, speech patterns, and lingo of a twelve-year old. Truly have a wonderful piece of work here”   ---Chris

“Although not the usual thing I read (YA), and the MC is in 1st person (definitely not my thing), I enjoyed this. There's a hell of a lot going for this, believable dialogue, moving action and lovable characters. Everything that happens is so 'right' for the YA. I could also 'see' this as a nice YA movie dealing with the problems of a growing kid. IMHO this should be on the market, it's better than a lot of stuff in the shops.”           ---Caile

“You have a masterpiece with this book. It is everything a youth--both boys         and girls--would love to read. I'm almost 50 and I think it is brilliant. Your writing flows perfectly. Every word chosen is perfect. I am so glad you tracked me down and asked me to read--this book is good.”      ---Belle

“I've read through six so far and am totally awestruck by your story. Every question coming to mind is answered or I feel trusting enough in your story to know they will be answered. It's written marvelously. It's hard to express how impressed I am with this. Six stars all the way!”                 ---Roy

”I like the fact this book talks about divorce, yet does it in such a lighthearted way.  The characters are very strong. I love the character Professor Strunk and how you have described him. Your writing is very smooth and conversations. With quirky dialogue and action. The POV is good and the pitch and power is good too. It is a tummy laughing story and well written. I would buy this for my nieces and nephews and nieces sit and watch them laugh.”                                                    ---Aurora

“Love the exciting boy adventure you have crafted. Absolutely loved your opening chapter. I almost felt that this is a true story and that D.S. is 'Jessup'. The language was real, the imagery was vivid.”      ---Carol

“I like the way you revealed the storyline through Jessup interactions with his friends and professor Strunk. Jessup an his friends being apart of The Force is a really great way to show kids how to be proactive when bad things happen in their neighborhood. I think you captured the current way tweens/teenagers react to social problems. I can also see this novel adapted as a great movie for young adult audience.”             ---Eric

“Teleportation! An excellent choice and I like how fits into this reality scene of a 12-year-old dealing with his parents divorce. It's interesting. Not only that but it seems someone else wants it to. Very good plot line for the audience you are looking for. You have some great ideas and a really good voice for this type of story. Starting out the story with him playing video-games is great. Really catchy. I like the thoughts you put into the characters. Some great details, smooth pacing, and great transitions. I think this will really do well. And you do a great job of bringing the chapters to a close and picking them up in the next.”             .                              …                                              ---Auna June

“I'm really impressed with this as a down to earth, Christian YA book. The pitch is short and to the point, presenting the plot in an intriguing way. The opening chapter works well, drawing you into the complex emotions Jessup is facing, and leaving you with the punch line that makes you want to read on. The following chapters work well, keeping the action flowing and throwing in more of the turbulent feelings Jessup is coping with, particularly when things start to go wrong. It would be good to get a bit more insight into how Jessup comes to terms with all this and reconciles it with his underlying faith. I guess that will come in the later chapters.
This has the makings of a good book.”                             ---Terry

“This is great!!! I feel like a kid again!! It gripped me from the very first chapter and is so much fun!”                                            ---Iman

“This book is a faced paced novel, that grabbed me in at the first paragraph.”                                                                   ---I.M.

“Jessup and the Teleporter is an enjoyable read that never takes itself too seriously, yet tackles some tough issues for kids going though a divorce. Author D.S. Hale is well versed at how to write for this audience, which is very different from writing for adults.I saw shades of How to Eat Fried Worms and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing when reading Jessup and the Teleporter, which skews to a slightly younger crowd than YA. Jessup Ousley is perfect main character. He seems like a typical kid and I never thought he acted out of place. I liked when the professor lands in his little TV and how he reacted, thinking he could use it to solve all his problems. Of course they made things worse, but that’s the fun of this book. Told at a good clip to keep younger readers interested, I could see Jessup and the Teleporter becoming a favorite story for kids who are dealing with similar issues as the main character. The right book at the right time for kids can change and influence their lives. And this could be that book for a lot of kids once published.”                                                       ---John

“This is an awesome little tale you have here. It has all the feelings of Back to the Future, but for kids. For a young adult reader the pace is perfect, the characters are round enough to be believable, and the story is interesting. Great work!”                                                 ---Kenneth

“I love that the first two chapters are basically cliff hangers. You have drawn the reader immediately with vivid language and enough back story to give the reader an understanding of the situation while not boring the reader at the same time. What a great beginning! I also think that Jessup's voice is perfect. You have that 12-year-old voice down pat.”      ---Kat
